Prince Edward Island Regulation First Aid Kits
Overview of PEI’s Requirements
- PEI’s rules mirror typical Atlantic Canada standards: workplaces must maintain a minimum set of first aid supplies.
- Larger or higher-risk workplaces require more comprehensive kits and possibly onsite first aid rooms.
How CSA Kits Comply
- CSA Z1220 standards usually exceed the minimum PEI item list (assorted sterile dressings, bandages, antiseptics, etc.).
- Ideal for multi-province employers seeking consistency and a recognized standard.
Differences to Note
- PEI does not officially adopt CSA, but using a CSA kit is a recognized best practice.
- Confirm the appropriate CSA kit classification if you have unique workplace hazards or larger staff counts.
Prince Edward Island first aid regulations fall under their Occupational Health and Safety Act under Section 9.11. The level of first aid required for your workplace depends on the number of employees on shift at the workplace at a given time. The employer is obligated to provide first aid kit #1 if there is only 1 worker, first aid kit #2 if there is less than 20 workers and first aid kit #3 if there is more than 20 workers.
